There is a story to this one.

I like to go on long car trips hauling a cooler with lots of food AND drinks in it. Like a normal human, if I filled up a cooler with a bunch of drinks, I’d pour a bag of ice or two on them to keep them cold, and as the ice melted, pulling a cold beer out of freezing water on a hot day just makes it better. However, when I’m on a car trip, and have a cooler with sandwich meat, a loaf of bread, some cheese and some non-alcoholic cans in there, I don’t want the whole thing turning into a swampy mess after a six-hour drive. I want my bread to stay dry, and the label to stay on the mayonnaise jar.

That’s where this bag comes in. Originally, I wanted to find a tough Ziploc bag that would work. I tried a bunch out. There was an expensive military-grade Ziploc bag, but it got little holes in it and eventually the zip part tore off. I found one on Amazon that was made of a silvery material, but you couldn’t freeze it repeatedly without cracking. So I set off on a journey to make my own.

I found a guy that made inflatable rafts, and sourced heat sealable fabric out of the Northwestern United States. I screwed around with clips and ties, and invented my patent pending double pipe system to keep water inside. I have a tough as hell bag that resists leaking. I made the big one large enough to accept a full 10lb. bag of ice from the minimart just off the highway, or a bunch of ice from the hotel ice machine. At the end of the day, I get a couple of tablespoons of water in the cooler from the fabric sweating. It’s designed to transfer the cold to the cooler and hold the melted water inside. It doesn’t keep the ice from melting, it keeps the water in the bag.

I made the small one for your small cooler because not everyone wants to use a ton of ice all the time. You can fill it full of water and put it in the freezer, or put ice cubes in it. I know that blue ice works for some people, I just don’t always stay somewhere that has a freezer available to recharge those ice packs. That’s another reason I made these.
